In-Home Care for Veterans

A-1 Home Care Services provides compassionate in-home care services for eligible Veterans and their families throughout the Denver and Aurora metro area.

Many Veterans qualify for assistance through VA Home and Community-Based Services, allowing them to receive care at home instead of moving to a nursing facility.

Our caregivers support Veterans with daily activities while helping them remain safe, independent, and comfortable in their homes.

We coordinate services with VA care teams and follow the care plan authorized by the Veteran’s program.

How Veterans Can Apply for VA Home Care

Veterans may qualify for VA-funded home care services that help them remain safely at home while receiving assistance with daily activities.

Below is a simplified overview of the process.

01

Step 1 — Enroll in VA Health Care

Before receiving VA home care services, a Veteran must first be enrolled in the VA Health Care System.

Veterans can apply:

  • Online Through the VA Website
  • By Phone
  • In Person at a VA Medical Center

Documents That May Be Required

  • DD-214 Discharge Papers
  • Identification
  • VA Disability Information (If Applicable)
  • Insurance Information (Medicare, Medicaid, or Private Insurance)

02

Step 2 — Schedule a VA Medical Appointment

After enrolling, the Veteran will be assigned a VA primary care provider.

During the appointment, the Veteran should discuss their need for assistance with daily activities at home.

The VA provider may request an evaluation for Home and Community-Based Services.

03

Step 3 — VA Social Worker Evaluation

A VA social worker or care coordinator will assess the Veteran’s needs.

This evaluation may review:

  • Mobility and Transfer Ability
  • Bathing and Dressing Needs
  • Meal Preparation Assistance
  • Safety Concerns in the Home
  • Overall Health Condition

Based on this assessment, the VA determines whether home care services are appropriate.

04

Step 4 — VA Authorization for Home Care

If the Veteran qualifies, the VA may approve services, such as:

  • Homemaker/Home Health Aide Services
  • Personal Care Assistance
  • Support with Daily Activities
  • Safety Monitoring at Home

Services are authorized through a VA-approved home care provider.

05

Step 5 — Community Care Coordination

In many cases, services are scheduled through the VA Community Care Network.

In Colorado, the VA works with:

TriWest Healthcare Alliance
Community Care Network
Veteran Support Line
